FAQ

What is the medical internship environment like in Finland?

The workload of interns is light or non-existent. They are expected to learn the language and system, examine patients and enter them into the system. There is no distance between the chief doctor and the intern. Mobbing never happens. Everyone takes care to help you. You will not encounter anyone with bad intentions.

Answer:

No, no, no.

1) There are no criteria for Valvira to require either "language" or "diploma confirmation" to work in Amanuenssi.

2)However;

  a) the Medical Diploma has been approved by Valvira and

  b) If the language level has been assessed as sufficient by Ylilääkäri (Chief Doctor) or YKI3 national language proficiency certificate has been obtained

The salary paid to the Amanuenssi (trainee doctor) by the employing health institution is funded by the local government. In other words, there are even institutional incentives for those whose language skills are deemed sufficient for diploma approval and interview with the chief doctor.

3) As the first examination requirement for physician equivalence, we encounter the requirement of "YKI3(B1) language proficiency" and "Valvira approval".

👉 But let's keep in mind that it would be a dream to find an internship without knowing any language, as the main language of that country is at the core of the job.

To have your degree recognized in Finland, you must send your documents by post to Valvira. You can check whether your mail has arrived with your tracking code on the Posti Oy website https://www.posti.fi/en/tracking. If your mail takes longer than expected, but does not appear on the tracking page or you do not receive a delivery notification, you can ask Valvira for confirmation of the delivery of your documents by e-mail.
